A Dhivehi language teacher once told me that she would always read professionally written texts by various authors after grading our exams, so as not to infect her mind with the shitty language that we used in our papers.
I feel the same way after months of being up to date with Maldivian political affairs. I have read, watched, and listened to almost all the bullshit that goes on in our islands. I feel like the only way we know how to run a country is by lying, fighting, playing petty politics, exploiting the poor and uneducated, and all sorts of barbarism that you can think of. And the sad fact is that this has always been true of most, if not all, countries in the world.
Just like my Dhivehi teahcer who needed to reboot her mind with proper language use, I need to reboot it with exposure to politics based on common sense and decency.
We shouldn't have to beg our leaders to do the right thing.
